For many of these websites you'll notice that they are very simplistic. For the reasons why, I'll point you to why this website looks the way it does.
Firstly it seems important to put links to my buddies sites (when they have them, of course).
This has quickly become one of my favorite sites on the entire web. I almost exclusively use free software, whether the definition is that of a beast roaming the halls of MIT or a raccoon in the dumpster does not matter. Freedom or free beer, either way works fine, but again either way they can often be somewhat of a pain to download, especially when working outside of a package manager. How do I know it's safe? Is this taking me to the proper download? And a million other questions that come with niche programs with "free" in the search query.
Major Geeks fixes all of these issues by being a hand curated catalogue of great free software. Everything on there has been thoroughly tested and can pretty much be guaranteed to work and be virus free, and is most of the time very useful.
Very good resource for anything Plan 9 from Bell Labs related.
